Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly assaulted in an attack in Dartmouth at the weekend.

The 43-year-old victim was approached by a man in Smith Street between about 11.45pm on Saturday 11 January and 12.15am on Sunday 12 January.

He was punched in the face before passing out, and sustained facial injuries. A passer-by who may have seen the attack assisted him.

Police believe this was an unprovoked attack.

The suspect was wearing a dark grey/blue top and jeans.

A 27-year-old man from Dartmouth has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on police bail until 12 March 2014.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference JH/14/19, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
