A PRIMARY school near Cull-ompton has been celebrating an impressive hat-trick after receiving its third ‘outstanding’ OFSTED report.

Staff, governors, parents and children at Clyst Hydon Primary School were thrilled with the report and marked it with a specially designed banner that will be displayed outside the school.

The report judged the school to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas and said: “The great majority of teaching is outstanding.

“It caters extremely well for all groups of pupils, including those with special educational needs and those who are gifted and talented.”

It praised the leadership of head teacher Dan Thorogood and the school governors.

The visiting OFSTED inspector said ‘pupils’ achievement was outstanding and that they made excellent progress in reading, writing and mathematics throughout the school.

Nothing fell below the very high standards set at Clyst Hydon and special mention was made of the outstanding provision for children with special educational needs and those who are gifted and talented.

Mr Thorogood said: “We are an exceptional, small village school with a real family atmosphere.

“Children here are very happy and we have extremely high expectations that lead to high standards of achievement and behaviour.

“It is fantastic that OFSTED have seen that this is a very special school and has recognised all the hard work by the staff and children.”
