AN unusual member of the cast stole the show when a Tiverton theatre group staged its annual Christmas production.

Four-year-old West Highland Terrier Buddy took centre stage at the Willow Tree Centre of Dance and Performing Arts production of The Slipper and the Rose as Cinderella’s loyal companion.

He received rapturous applause as he took to the stage and appeared to love the hustle, bustle and razzamatazz of musical theatre.

Buddy is owned by Rick Barfoot from Tiverton, who has performed in local dramatic groups for nearly 20 years.

Hugh Gardner, father of Jess, who played the part of Cinderella, said: “Buddy and the cast had a great rapport, keeping us spellbound throughout, and it was clear to see he was completely at home on stage, enthralling us all.”

Vicky Baldwin, Willow Tree vice-principal and Slipper and The Rose producer, said: “The show seemed to go down really well with our audiences and Buddy’s part in it was brilliant.

“During the many months of rehearsals, while Buddy and the cast learnt theatre craft together, they created a great bond. It was wonderful to see and clear that the partnership worked beautifully
