EMERGENCY services are currently dealing with "numerous calls" relating to the severe weather currently hitting the South West.

Devon and Somerset's Fire Control is being inundated with calls regarding flooding due to the weather conditions, affecting both properties and individuals who have driven into flooded roads.

A Fire Service spokesperson said: "The public are reminded not to drive through flood water, as this may be deeper then it appears.

"Also we have attended a number of incidents regarding dangerous structures which have been made safe."

Avon and Somerset Police's Wellington force have also strongly recommended the region's residents stay indoors.

It tweeted: "Don't travel tonight unless it's absolutely necessary. Flooded roads, fallen trees, power cables down and more. Stay safe at home if possible."
