MATHEMATICIANS from Blundell’s School in Tiverton are celebrating after winning the South-West round of a national competition.

This year saw the highest number of entries in the regional Senior Team Maths challenge with 25 of the top independent and grammar schools in the South-West taking part in the competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust.

It was an exciting finish for the Blundell’s team of Gus de Falbe, Lori Burian, Run Cong Zhao and Maggie Fu Shaoyi. They were in joint first place as they entered the final round but, by scoring a bonus point for getting full marks in the quickest time, Blundell’s were victorious by one point.

The team will now take part in the national final in London next February.
