Mid Devon survives St Jude storm
9:00am Friday 1st November 2013 in News
PEOPLE in Mid Devon breathed a sigh of relief this week as the St Jude storm crossed the county without incident.
Thousands of homes, including many in Taunton, were temporarily left without power after the high winds in the early hours of Monday.
Dozens of trees were blown down across the region, including one which blocked Ford Road in Wellington, though no serious injuries were reported.
Workmen were also called to a tree which fell into the River Barle in Dulverton.
Rivers throughout the county swelled, but no flooding was reported.
Rail travellers from the South-West to London were among the worst hit, enduring severe delays.
