Cloners suspected after spate of number plate thefts
11:48am Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
Police in the Teignbridge area are appealing for car owners to be vigilant following a spate of number plate thefts.
Police are investigating crimes where the front and rear plates have been stolen from vehicles – eight have been struck between Sept 18 to 30. The licence plates have been unscrewed and no other damage has occurred to the vehicle while removing them.
It is believed that the crimes are linked - especially the ones in and around Newton Abbot.
Police believe they are being taken for cloning or crime purposes.
PCSO Shaun Woodward said: “There are a number of ways to prevent your licence plates being removed and one of the simplest is anti-theft screws which you can get from retailers online and from stores, these screws are not expensive and will save the inconvenience of your plates being stolen.
“We are asking members of the public to report anything suspicious to the police by calling 101 and using the crime ref JN/13/2708.”
