Transport event in Tiverton
8:00am Monday 7th October 2013 in News
A SCHEME which is helping people get around will be raising the profile of its vital services at a transport event in Tiverton next Wednesday.
The awareness day organised by Transport for Your Community is taking place at Tiverton and District Community Transport Association’s offices in the multi-storey car park in Phoenix Lane.
The event will focus on Tiverton’s voluntary car scheme, which is on offer to people who find access to public transport difficult and are unable to afford taxi fares.
It is run by volunteers who use their own cars to help increase the independence and mobility of older people and those with disabilities.
Gwen Sanders, who uses one of the voluntary car schemes, said: ‘Without the scheme I wouldn’t be able to get into town as I have breathing difficulties and need help travelling. It’s a lifeline.”
