Tourism bosses in Devon celebrate a bumper bank holiday
12:00pm Saturday 31st August 2013 in News
TOURISM in Devon has received a boost thanks to the ‘staycation’.
Carolyn Custerson, chair of Visit Devon, said around £35million was spent in the county over the bumper Bank Holiday weekend and bookings for Devon hotels were up by 20% compared with August, 2012.
She added: “It is fantastic that Devon has had such a strong summer season this year.
"The weather has helped enormously but we must now drive home the message that this is a county to visit across the year.
"Tourism jobs are more critical to Devon than many other counties and we believe it's time for much more investment to enable us to optimise the legacy of this Summer and to secure our advantage still further."
