Two men from Barnstaple were arrested by police on Wednesday evening (12 June) on suspicion of attempted robbery following a failed raid on a Post Office.

The 24-year-old and 25-year-old have been released on police bail until July 22.

The arrests followed the attempted robbery of a post office within a shop at Bucks Cross close to the Bideford Bay Holiday Park at 1.15pm on Wednesday.

The suspect is alleged to have demanded money with the suggestion that a weapon was concealed.  No weapon was actually seen nor was any threats made.

Shortly after this the suspect fled the shop empty handed in the direction Hartland.

North Devon police said they quickly deployed various resources in an attempt to locate and arrest the suspect.

Detective Inspector Dave Atkinson said: “This was obviously a disturbing incident for the woman in the shop who was very brave.  The suspect for whatever reason decided to run off and police units were immediately deployed to try to find this person."
He added no one was injured in the  "isolated incident".
