STUDENTS have donned a theatre company’s trademark masks to hone their skills as aspiring stage actors.

Players from the Vamos Theatre Company, who use the caricature-style guises in their productions, hosted a drama workshop at Uffculme School to demonstrate their unique, silent-form of acting.

The students learnt how to bring the masks to life using their improvisation skills by focusing on body language to communicate with their peers on stage.

Kate Fonseca, the school’s head of drama, said she was shocked at how well the pupils were able to connect with their characters and perform entertaining and understandable short plays.

She said: “I was delighted by the energy, talent and creativity demonstrated by the students.

“This is the third time we have worked with Vamos and as always the workshop was both challenging and inspiring.”

Later, the group watched a moving performance of the company’s latest production, Finding Joy, at the Tiverton Community Arts Theatre.
