CANDIDATES vying for the position of Devon and Cornwall's chief constable will be interviewed for the job today, Tuesday.

The shortlisted applicants, thought to include current acting chief constable Shaun Sawyer and Avon and Somerset deputy chief constable Rob Beckley, will face competency interviews for the role at the offices of the force's police and crime commissioner in Exeter.

As well as being interviewed, the candidiates must also make 15 minute presentations, which they will have 45 minutes to prepare.

Other applicants for the role, which carries a £150,000 salary, are believed to include deputy chief constable of West Mercia Police Simon Chesterman and Surrey Police's second in command Craig Denholm.

A press conference to reveal the successful candidate will be held at 10am tomorrow, Wednesday.

The nomination will need to be approved by the Police and Crime Commissioner's watchdog, the Police and Crime panel, which will meet on 8 February.
