Divers to help in search for ferry jump teenager
11:07am Friday 4th January 2013 in News
Police and Coastguard officers have resumed the search for missing ferry jump teenager Jordan Cobb, with divers brought in to help.
The 16-year-old was seen to jump from the Torpoint Ferry at around 9.15pm on New Year's Eve.
Some 50 staff from the Coastguard, Devon and Cornwall Police and Ministry of Defence (MoD) Police were involved in an intensive search on Thursday, (January 3), taking in both sides of the river and the dockyard.
MoD Police has searched the dockyard and searches have gone as far as the Citadel. On the Cornish side, the search has spanned from Mount Edgecumbe to Millbrook, including the St John’s Lake and HMS Raleigh areas.
An RNAS Culdrose helicopter was called in around 4.20pm to conduct a search of the St John’s Lake area.
Police divers are expected to search the river bed around the ferry in the morning, if the conditions are favourable.
The public are asked to keep away from the shoreline. Friends and volunteers have been onto the beach and out in boats and, although we understand their willingness to help, it is not a safe environment and could hamper the coordinated search that is taking place.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Devon and Cornwall Police on 101.
