FIREFIGHTERS say they have dealt with more than 400 flood incidents in Devon and Somerset today.

A fire service spokesman said a short time ago: "Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are still experiencing a high amount of calls to flooding incidents across the service area.

"Since the rainfall began early this morning at 2.12am, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have attended 422 incidents due to flooding with 20 incidents still on-going. "There are 20 appliances at present committed, plus two appliances from Avon Fire and Rescue Service and one appliance from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service in assistance.

"Two specialist rescue teams are also committed to incidents. A floodwater rescue is on-going at Creech St Michael, Taunton and an animal rescue from floodwater at Bradford on Tone.

"We have one appliance in assistance to Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service attending a three appliance property fire."
