A STAGGERING 2,049 motorists have been caught driving through bus gates in Taunton in just one month.
That’s roughly a vehicle every 20 minutes and their misdemeanours will scoop Somerset County Council between £60,000 and £125,000.
But the enforcement of restrictions, which bar all vehicles except buses and emergency vehicles, has been blasted “a shambles” that has left drivers confused.
The council has revealed that 1,318 people were clocked driving through the bus gate at Mountway Road in Bishop’s Hull between September 24, when CCTV cameras were switched on, and October 23, with 731 snapped at Deane Gate Avenue, in Blackbrook, over the same period.
They have all received £60 fines, reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.
