STUDENTS at Taunton Academy are finding out what school is like in Africa through an on-going relationship with The Upper Brufut School in Gambia.
They have raised money to install a well which is the school’s only supply of clean water.
Caroline Kolek, international co-ordinator for the academy, said: “Through the Christian spirit of The Taunton Academy, students and staff participate in regular fundraising activities to support the school and sponsor three African schoolchildren who otherwise would not be able to receive an education.
“The relationship is also important because it helps our students understand what school is like in Africa and how different it is from their own experience.”
The next project will involve year 7 and 8 Taunton Academy students initiating a pen-pal relationship with students in Gambia.
