EMPTY commercial buildings in Taunton are getting a window makeover to help make the town more attractive.

Images of what the premises could be used for are being put on display to try to attract new businesses to the town.

The initiative has been spearheaded by Taunton Town Centre Company.

Louisa Turner, of TTCC, said: “We’re trying to promote the empty shops in the town in a positive way and give some idea of what they could be used for to businesses who are potentially looking at coming to Taunton.

“It’s certainly an improvement from empty glass, post on the floor and loose fixtures and fittings.”

Taunton Town Centre Company director and commercial property surveyor Duncan Brown said:

“We’re trying to improve the appeal of empty buildings in the town centre, creating a feel-good factor.

“Having said that, the vacancy rate in Taunton is lower than a lot of other towns.”

Clothing firm Fat Face is hoping to move from its East Street store to the former Burtons before Christmas, doubling its current floor space.

And its neighbour, Orange, has moved out and set up across the road.
