Plymouth 'dispersal order' Christmas crackdown on anti-social behaviour

Police can now force people to move away from certain areas of Plymouth as part of a Christmas crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

Called a dispersal order it will apply to two areas of Silverton, including Union Street, Barbican Leisure Park, North Hill and Mutley Plain, in the city centre.

Devon and Cornwall Police requested the order which will run from 2 November until 8 January.

A police spokesman: "The order allows officers to move people from an area when they are deemed to be causing a nuisance. A council spokesman said the dispersal order would be used alongside patrols by specialist police officers, street pastors and the use of CCTV cameras to help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour."
