PLAY-TIME has become even more enjoyable for children in Porlock after a revamp of equipment on the village’s award-winning recreation ground, thanks in part to donations.
Holly Wright has been the driving force behind the scheme and after speaking to families about what they wanted, organised new additions including a zip wire and bird’s nest swing.
The more traditional and ever popular swings, helter-skelter slide and roundabout have also been replaced and are accompanied by three new picnic tables.
In addition to fun, an emphasis was also placed on the environment, with most of the equipment made of wood.
Ian Partington, honorary secretary of the Porlock Recreation Ground Management Committee said: “We knew the existing play area equipment was getting a bit jaded.
“We had received donations so the committee gave the go-ahead, and Holly Wright did all the preparation which involved a lot of hard work for her.
“We now have a very family-friendly area that has picnic tables as well as upto- date equipment we know is popular with children and even though it’s autumn I reckon the use of the play area has more than doubled.”
