YOUNGSTERS from Littleham in North Devon will soon have a new adventure trail to explore - thanks to a partnership between Devon County Council, the local community and local businesses.
Littleham playground is set to be transformed into an adventure haven, with a circular trail of activities such as timber-framed tyre swings, climbing frames and rope walks.
Local Devon County Councillor Hugo Barton has contributed £2,000 towards the project from his County Committee budget, and the remainder of the cost of the equipment will be provided through match-funding from Barclays Bank, the proceeds of a fund-raising family fun day on June 14, and support from other local businesses.
Councillor Barton said: "This superb adventure trail will provide a real feature for the village, and will benefit some 60 children who live in the parish, as well as those from further afield.
"I'm pleased to support the project, and would like to thank the partners who have also pledged their support. It's a great example of the Council working with local communities to provide something of lasting value for children and families in the area."
Paul Jarrett, Relationship Manager for Barclays Commercial, said: "This is a great boost for our project and our thanks go to Councillor Barton. We hope soon to have something that will help to increase the community spirit that we feel here in Littleham."
It is hoped the final target of £6,000 will be reached by the summer, with the plan to install the equipment in September.
A TIVERTON councillor this week called for an end to the parking “chaos” which she says is blighting large areas of the town.
POLICE in Exeter are appealing for witnesses after a “smash and grab” at a jeweller’s shop in the city.
