POLICE from across Mid Devon have staged a major crackdown on drugs and drug dealers in Tiverton this week.
A total of 20 officers in plain clothes from Tiverton and Cullompton targeted known and suspected dealers in a three-day operation which started on Monday.
Three arrests were made and more are set to follow as enquiries continue.
Sgt Robin Curtis, of Tiverton police station, said: "It went very, very well. Most people around the town were probably unaware of what was going on but the regular drug dealers and users soon knew.
"I am confident we have disrupted the use and supply of drugs during the last three days."
The crackdown was part of Operation Everest which involved a number of police operations across East and Mid Devon.
Sgt Curtis said the operation in Tiverton was just part of an ongoing campaign.
He added: "You may not see us but we will be there and doing this on and off for the foreseeable future. Devon remains one of the safest places to live in the country but that is no reason for us to be complacent.
"If you look at the burglaries we have detected, most are committed by drug dealers or drug users. By cracking down on them we are looking after the public as well."
A TIVERTON councillor this week called for an end to the parking “chaos” which she says is blighting large areas of the town.
POLICE in Exeter are appealing for witnesses after a “smash and grab” at a jeweller’s shop in the city.
