Celebrations for Home-Start stars

| Tiverton Mayor and Mayoress Kevin and Ruth Wilson with new volunteers and organisers at Home-Start |
HOME-Start Mid Devon has had a buffet lunch to celebrate the last day of its current preparation course for new volunteers.
Tiverton Mayor and Mayoress Kevin and Ruth Wilson presented certificates to the six volunteers at the organisation, which offers support, friendship and practical help to families at home with children under five.
It was Home-Start's 20th preparation course since it started in 1999 - with organisers Annette Shipcott and Susan Smith delivering it for the first time.
The course was funded by a grant from Mid Devon District Council.
Annette said: "It was good to watch the group of volunteers grow in confidence through the training.
"They came to recognise the value of their natural skills and parenting experiences."
Susan said: "Delivering the course so soon after joining Home-Start was quite a challenge for Annette and me, but we embraced it and enjoyed every minute of it.
"The new volunteers committed themselves 100% to the course and made our job much easier than we expected - they will make valuable volunteers."
Meanwhile, Cllr Wilson has agreed to become a trustee at Home-Start Mid Devon.
Scheme manager Angie Radford said: "We're delighted he's agreed to take up the position.
"The Mayor and Mayoress spoke positively about the work of our valued volunteers and they share our passion in supporting families across Mid Devon."
The next preparation course starts in September 2008 and anyone interested should ring for more information on 01884-252743.
