Council performance 'improving'
PERFORMANCE at Mid Devon District Council is improving, a new report shows.
Figures going before members of the authority's executive committee on Thursday show 58 out of 80 'best value performance indicators' are on target, above target, or well above target.
The remaining 22 are below or well below target.
The report states that over the last 12 months, 37 of the indicators have improved.
It adds: "Of concern are those below target showing no improvement."
These areas are equality issues, housing rent arrears and an increase in crime rates in 2007/8 - action plans have been put in place to address the problems.
Last year, 56 of the indicators were on target or better, with 29 below target or worse.
Among the 58 indicators which are on target or better are:
The number of robberies per 1,000 people
Composting of household waste
Levels of graffiti
The percentage of council tax collected - 98.5% against a target of 98%. Next year's target is 97%
Removal of abandoned vehicles.
Among the 22 indicators which are below target or worse are:
The energy efficiency of housing stock
The number of violent crime incidents per 1,000 people
The percentage of employees with a disability
The number of recorded racial incidents
The indicators are set to be replaced by new Government 'national indicators' and the council's own performance indicators.
