Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien has revealed her new job working behind the bar at the Rovers Return is not going so well.

The 31-year-old actress is reprising her role as Sarah-Louise Platt after eight years away from the cobbles. Sarah-Lou returns from Italy hot on the heels of her wayward teenage daughter Bethany, and is set to start working as a barmaid.

Tina told This Morning: “I’ve done my first scenes [working at The Rovers]. I’m not very good, I’ll be honest! Sound were just like, ‘What are you doing?’ I had these bottles – all I had to do was pick them up and gently place them down!”

Newcomer Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany, also spoke about her delight at landing the role, after first being told she had not passed the audition. Lucy was drafted in to replace Katie Redford, who was dropped by the soap after it emerged she had lied about her age to get the part of 14-year-old Bethany.

Lucy revealed: “When I thought that I hadn’t got it, obviously I was gutted. I thought that was it then, I didn’t think I was going to get it. So when they rang me to say that I had got it, I absolutely couldn’t believe it. I still can’t.

“Everything moves so quickly, so it was like I hadn’t got it, then suddenly I had got it, then I was going for the tour and I was meeting Helen Worth and everybody, and now I’m on it.”
