SNOW PATROL: UP TO NOW (Fiction/A and M): Has it really been FIFTEEN years since Snow Patrol burst on the scene?
They are now one of the biggest bands around and, after five studio albums, all of their best material has been gathered together for this double album – a best of but with more besides.
There are 30 tracks with all the best known hit singles, cover versions, rarities, album tracks and three brand new ones as well as compositions by singer Gary Lightbody’s Reindeer Section – an indie supergroup featuring members of Scotland’s guitar elite, Belle and Sebastian, Idlewild and Teenage Fanclub among others.
From their formation in Scotland in 1994, the band’s hard earned rise has seen them become one of the world’s biggest bands, selling over ten million copies of their last three albums – Final Straw (2003), Eyes Open (2006) and last year’s A Hundred Million Suns.
Up To Now comes as a two disc CD with 30 tracks, and also as a three disc digipack with an additional DVD with two exclusive documentaries, The Lightning Strike animated film and previously unseen live footage.
A limited edition box is also available on a strictly limited run: each box is numbered and wrapped in cloth and the first 100 will be signed by the band members. The box includes two disc CD, three heavyweight LPs, two DVDs, a lithograph print and LP sized booklet.
The full track list is below, and in addition the band will release Just Say Yes – one of the three new tracks - as a single.
This is an amazing package from a great band with all the hits like Chasing Cars, Set Down Your Glass, Run, You Could Be Happy, Chocolate, You’re All I Have, Crack the Shutters, and loads more.
SONG LIST: Disc One - 1 Chocolate, 2 Chasing Cars, 3 Crack The Shutters, 4 Set The Fire To The Third Bar, 5 Crazy In Love, 6 Just Say Yes, 7 Batten Down The Hatch, 8 You’re All I Have, 9 Hands Open, 10 Cartwheels, 11 The Planets Bend Between Us (2009 Version), 12 Ask Me How I Am, 13 On-Off, 14 Making Enemies, 15 Run (Live at the Union Chapel) Disc Two - 1 Take Back the City, 2 Shut Your Eyes, 3 An Olive Grove Facing the Sea (2009 Version), 4 Run, 5 Give Me Strength, 6 Signal Fire, 7 Spitting Games, 8 Open Your Eyes, 9 Dark Roman Wine, 10 Fifteen Minutes Old, 11 You Are My Joy, 12 Golden Floor, 13 Starfighter Pilot, 14 PPP, 15 Chasing Cars (Live at the Union Chapel).
This is genuine value for money for all fans and if you haven’t caught up with them yet, then this is a must. With 30 tracks it offers much more than the usual ‘best of’ fare and will make a great Christmas gift.
“We’ve climbed a hill and now we’re looking back and taking in the view for a bit,” Lightbody told the Gazette. “It’s nice to show people that we didn’t just arrive overnight.”
The band embarks on ‘Snow Patrol Reworked’, a live celebration of highlights from their songbook which have been specially reworked and reinvented. It offers a chance to look back over the band’s early days as well as seeing and hearing their more recent work in a brand new way. They will be joined by other musicians and surprise guests and will also feature a four piece quartet, brass section, harpist, additional percussion, lap steel guitar and a choir!
