Devon woman is congratulated for her contribution to society

A woman from Devon has been nominated for "Woman of the Year"

Maureen Rolls will be joining the prestigious Women of the Year Lunch next week.

This highly established event, set up in 1955 by Lady Tony Lothian, brings together outstanding women from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life, in recognition of their individual achievements.

Each and every woman invited to attend the lunch is considered to be a Woman of the Year' and is invited in recognition of their contribution to society and achievements in their chosen field. These women are nominated by a council of over 40 women, including: President, Joan Armatrading, Chairman, Eleanor Angel, Mary Nightingale, Gill Carrick, Ann Barr, Maureen Lipman, Jancis Robinson, Teresa Graham, Nancy Lane, Virginia Wade and Floella Benjamin.

Maureen Rolls is the founder of South West Equine Protection. She has saved many ill-treated ponies destined to be sold for meat over the years. The Pony Sanctuary, which she runs, houses over 100 abandoned or cruelly treated ponies. She was received by HMQ at BP for Pioneers in the Country.

President, Joan Armatrading said: "Each and every woman who attends The Women of the Year Lunch does so because of their considerable achievements. Each year we are introduced to more and more outstanding women and these women often overlook their enormous value.

"It is my honour and pleasure to ensure they are recognised and celebrated through this event for their enviable contribution to society."
