Poets days in Devon

EVENTS will be held at Devon County Council's libraries next week to mark National Poetry Day on October 4.

At Tiverton Library, there will be a workshop for budding performers with poet Chris Tutton on Tuesday, October 2 at 2.30pm.

Poets can learn how to read' to an audience and develop their own voices and styles.

The workshop involves individual and group tuition designed to help people develop their confidence, communication skills, performance techniques and delivery.

Places are limited and early booking is advised. Tickets are £3 from the library or by phone on 01884-244644.

In the evening, at 7pm Chris will host An Evening of Poetry and perform his idiosyncratic work. He is a well known performer having appeared throughout the UK and at many literary festivals, as well as on radio and television. Tickets are £2 from the library or by phone on 01884 244644.

His poems have been described as short, sweet poems with a great deal of wit and subtle observation'.

Chris's website can be found at www.christutton.co.uk Meanwhile, at Exeter Central Library, local published poets James Turner, Julie-Ann Rowell and Dana Smith reprise the highly successful performance they gave last year to mark National Poetry Day.

It will be held at Exeter Central Library on Thursday, October 4th at 7.30pm.

This year's performance is entitled Edge of Dreams'. Tickets are £2 from the library or by phone on 01392 384201.

A Poetry Open Evening will be held at Exmouth Library on Thursday, October 4, at 7.30pm.

People will have the chance to read their own work or enjoy listening to others. People who would like to read should contact Ann McInnes at the library in advance. Tickets are £2.
