Police Find Body In Thames

December 20, 2000 11:24: Police searching for a gay Hendon man missing from his home for nearly one month have recovered a body from the Thames.

Norwegian Kai Holmen Nygaard, of Vivian Avenue, had been missing since November 25 and was last seen in the Admiral Duncan pub the site of a fatal bombing by a right-wing extremist last year.

Mr Nygaard, 28, a recruitment consultant for a West End company, was due to meet work colleagues later that night but he never arrived.

And on Tuesday last week, a body was spotted in the Thames, near The Temple and was later recovered by officers.

Police this week confirmed that the body matched the description of Mr Nygaard although they are still awaiting a formal identification.

No suspicious circumstances were indicated by a post-mortem which was held at Poplar Mortuary on Friday last week.

The cause of death was given as drowning.
